Unit does not use higher than 2x DVDs – Patricia – Cave Spring, GA USA
I had this unit since 2005 and has been reliable. Although I read that some units of this model supports the DVD with a speed of 4X, my recorder has never accepted the DVD more than a speed of 2X. 2X DVD are harder to find and now I can not find online (Amazon is the best source). I also managed to find the firmware updated so that the recorder supports DVD at high speed.

I received as a birthday gift. Right out of the box did not work. Customer service says I need a firmware upgrade, since you can read / write speeds 1x DVD. Upgrade to 8x and things were much, for the most part. You can save 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 hours on a DVD, although the image quality is 1, 2, and the rate of 4:00. The sound quality seems poor – always to increase the TV volume wayyyy past normal.
BUT …
Now, do not sell 8xSlow DVD in my area and customer service said it does not provide a firmware update for 16x DVD, so I basically a dust collector Nice, once I run 8x DVD. The unit spits on anything faster than 8x, and despite the application does not work at all with RW discs (speed).
